Cocoa Beach Florida Dentist Dr. Bagwell

uses crowns as a durable porcelain cap to restore teeth that are broken, weak, discolored or to cap a root canal. This beautiful restoration blends in with your natural teeth and gives you back the complete use of a much stronger tooth/teeth.

The traditional amalgam fillings can begin to leak harmful bacteria over time. Because of sensitivity to temperature, they can also become oversized and no longer fit to the tooth correctly. For these reasons, they can cause deterioration and increase the potential for a broken tooth. Dr. Bagwell can replace unsightly metal fillings with beautiful, functional ceramic restorations. Using the CEREC-3D CAD/CAM technology, we’ll design them to blend in with your smile with the natural strength, color and function of your original tooth.

For years, people have looked forward to a more comfortable, single visit approach to inlays and crowns... even David Letterman. You can see him discuss this common dilemma, now solved with the CEREC treatment option offered by Dr. Bagwell.

"Having this advanced CEREC technology allows me the ability to provide more accurate, more conservative dentistry. Providing this higher quality treatment - in just a single visit - also saves our patients time, which they really appreciate." --Dr. Bagwell DMD

The Advantage of Single Visit Crowns

What used to take 3 visits...first performing a root canal or decay removal, then crown preparation and lastly crown placement, are now all done in just a single visit. The advantages of single visit crowns are:

  • The area will need to be numbed only once
  • There is no uncomfortable temporary crown which can leak bacteria
  • You don't need a second appointment for inserts - no added lost time from work
  • They need less aggressive restoration
  • They minimize post-op sensitivity

One of the technological advances that makes it possible to offer such a wonderful option to our patients is the CEREC 3D CAD/CAM system. With this system we are able to generate a 3D digital/optical impression of your tooth instead of using the traditional "molded" impression. Dr. Bagwell will then design the restoration in 3D imaging using CAD/CAM software. This allows you to see the design of your restoration and how it will fit before we actual place it. Then the porcelain restoration will be milled, in-office, in only 10 minutes... ready for the restoration on the same appointment. Total treatment time is about an hour.

We use Empress porcelain crowns. These all-porcelain/ceramic crowns eliminate the use of any metal in your restorations which can leave an ugly grey line along the gumline, detracting from the beauty of your smile.

There is usually very little discomfort during this procedure and because the tooth is immediately sealed there is no danger of bacterial infection or of micro-bacterial leakage as in the traditional method of crown placement. If needed, we do have methods to assist your comfort, making sure that this procedure is painless and anxiety-free for you.

One-visit crowns will restore the beauty and function of your teeth in only a matter of minutes. Please call our office for a consultation and talk with a member of our team to see if this is the option for you.
